Vice Chancellor Award for Research Excellence – 2025

Celebrating the power of Research. Faculty of Technological Studies proudly announce that Mrs.Lojenaa Kartheeswaran (Lecturer from Department of Information and Communication Technology) received the

Vice Chancellor Award for Research Excellence – 2025 under Young Researcher Category.

The University Research Committee conducted the awarding ceremony on 19th December 2025, from 2.30pm to 3.00 pm, to present to the winner.

The ceremony saw the participation of staff members from the University of Vavuniya, who gathered to support and celebrate the awardee. The Vice Chancellor , Acting Registrar and the three Deans appreciated the achievements of the award winner and delivered speeches, encouraging all staff members to engage in scholarly work. The award winner shared a motivational speech, reflecting on her research journey and experience, inspiring others to pursue research and innovation

PovertyHack-2025. The team of FTS students won the First Prize in the Inter University Hackathon conducted by Open University in colloborations with SLAAS and they received certificate from the Minister of Science and Technology in the SLAAS Annual Session.

One-Stop Shop Investment Portal (OSSI)

The project was implemented under the overall leadership and strategic guidance of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Senior Professor A. Atputharajah, ensuring alignment with the University’s mission of innovation, digital transformation, and national development. The academic leadership was provided by Mr. V. Senthooran, Dean of the Faculty of Technological Studies, and Mr. R. Sakuntharaj, Senior Lecturer Grade I, while the system was developed by undergraduate student Mr. K. Haraldbranavan (2023/ICTS/152), demonstrating an effective model of collaboration between institutional governance, academic supervision, and student innovation.

The development process followed a structured software engineering approach, including stakeholder consultations, requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and iterative enhancement based on user feedback. A preliminary version of the portal was successfully demonstrated during the Northern Investment Summit 2026 held on 21 January 2026 in Jaffna, where it was officially introduced by the Hon. Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development and received positive engagement from government officials, investors, international representatives, and academic institutions. Following this, the system was further refined with enhanced functionality, improved user experience, and strengthened performance and security features before being deployed on the Northern Provincial server infrastructure.

SLASSCOM – IIT Madras Pravartak Research Park Partnership Program

UOV/FTS/DICT– SLASSCOM – IIT Madras Pravartak Research Park Partnership Program

Mr. W.A. Kavith Udapola (2021/ICTS/062), a student of the Faculty of Technological Studies, successfully completed and was awarded certification under the SLASSCOM and IIT Madras Pravartak partner program, “Mastering the Startup Journey – Training for an Entrepreneurship Career Path.” The program was designed to elevate Sri Lankan startups through tailored acceleration, mentorship, and international incubation opportunities.

As part of this initiative, the project MooMap emerged as a successful startup venture, developed by team members under the guidance of Mr. R. Ravichandran, Lecturer in ICT, from the Department of ICT. The project demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurial potential, reflecting the knowledge and skills gained through the program.

The MooMap project was successfully developed as a startup initiative by team members of, W.A. Kavith Udapola (2021/ICTS/062), K.T. Imalka Randev (2021/ICTS/001),J.A.D. This program was facilitated through the collaboration with SLASSCOM under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Technological Studies, University of Vavuniya, and SLASSCOM, under the coordination of Mr.V.Senthooran, Dean, Faculty of Technological Studies of the University of Vavuniya.

Empowering School Students

Two-Day Hands-on Workshop on Python Programming and Web Technologies for Advanced Level ICT Students
The Faculty of Technological Studies, University of Vavuniya, successfully conducted a two-day hands-on workshop on Python Programming and Web Technologies for Advanced Level ICT students from the Vavuniya South Zonal Education Division.
The workshop was specifically organized for students who will be sitting for the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as one of their subjects. A total of 75 students together with ICT Teachers actively participated in the programme, gaining practical knowledge and hands-on experience in Python programming, web development fundamentals, and modern computing technologies.
The primary objective of the workshop was to strengthen students’ practical ICT competencies, bridge the gap between theoretical and practical learning, and enhance their readiness for the Advanced Level examination while inspiring them to pursue higher education and careers in the field of Information Technology.
The inaugural session was graced by the Senor Professor A.Atputharajah , Vice-Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, whose presence highlighted the University’s commitment to supporting ICT education and empowering school students through community outreach initiatives.
The workshop sessions were conducted by Mrs.Yasotha Ram ramanan,Senior Lecturer from Department of Physical Science and Ms.Amritha Thuvakaran, Lecturer from Department of ICT, who served as the resource persons with the help of Demonstrators. Through interactive demonstrations, coding exercises, past paper revision and practical activities, they provided participants with valuable insights into Python programming and web technologies.
The Department of ICT under the Faculty of Technological Studies remains committed to fostering ICT education in the Northern Province by organizing outreach programmes that equip school students with industry-relevant knowledge and practical skills, thereby preparing them for future academic and professional success
