PovertyHack-2025

PovertyHack-2025. The team of FTS students won the First Prize in the Inter University Hackathon conducted by Open University in colloborations with SLAAS and they received certificate from the Minister of Science and Technology in the SLAAS Annual Session.

One-Stop Shop Investment Portal (OSSI)

The project was implemented under the overall leadership and strategic guidance of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Senior Professor A. Atputharajah, ensuring alignment with the University’s mission of innovation, digital transformation, and national development. The academic leadership was provided by Mr. V. Senthooran, Dean of the Faculty of Technological Studies, and Mr. R. Sakuntharaj, Senior Lecturer Grade I, while the system was developed by undergraduate student Mr. K. Haraldbranavan (2023/ICTS/152), demonstrating an effective model of collaboration between institutional governance, academic supervision, and student innovation.

The development process followed a structured software engineering approach, including stakeholder consultations, requirement analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and iterative enhancement based on user feedback. A preliminary version of the portal was successfully demonstrated during the Northern Investment Summit 2026 held on 21 January 2026 in Jaffna, where it was officially introduced by the Hon. Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development and received positive engagement from government officials, investors, international representatives, and academic institutions. Following this, the system was further refined with enhanced functionality, improved user experience, and strengthened performance and security features before being deployed on the Northern Provincial server infrastructure.

SLASSCOM – IIT Madras Pravartak Research Park Partnership Program

UOV/FTS/DICT– SLASSCOM – IIT Madras Pravartak Research Park Partnership Program

Mr. W.A. Kavith Udapola (2021/ICTS/062), a student of the Faculty of Technological Studies, successfully completed and was awarded certification under the SLASSCOM and IIT Madras Pravartak partner program, “Mastering the Startup Journey – Training for an Entrepreneurship Career Path.” The program was designed to elevate Sri Lankan startups through tailored acceleration, mentorship, and international incubation opportunities.

As part of this initiative, the project MooMap emerged as a successful startup venture, developed by team members under the guidance of Mr. R. Ravichandran, Lecturer in ICT, from the Department of ICT. The project demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurial potential, reflecting the knowledge and skills gained through the program.

This program was facilitated through the collaboration with SLASSCOM under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of Technological Studies, University of Vavuniya, and SLASSCOM, under the coordination of Mr.V.Senthooran, Dean, Faculty of Technological Studies of the University of Vavuniya.
